Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms are the basis on which the IP Locator apps are offered. They say what the apps do not promise, what the data they show is and is not, and what is fair use of them.
1. What These Terms Cover
These terms apply to the IP Locator apps for Android and iOS. By using an app you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not use it.
They cover the apps only. The IP Locator website is a separate product, governed by its own terms published on that site.
IP Locator is developed and published by LinnetLab, an independent developer rather than a company.
2. What the Apps Are
An app tells you the public IP address your device is seen with and what is known about it: country, region, city, and network provider. You can also enter another address and look that one up instead.
The apps need no account. There is nothing to sign up for.
The number of lookups is capped. If you need volume, the IP Locator API issues per-client credentials with limits of their own — write to the address below.
3. What the Data Is, and What It Is Not
Everything shown about an address is approximate and comes from a third-party geolocation service. It can be wrong, and it can be out of date.
It describes the network an address belongs to, not the person using it. A city shown next to an address is where that network is registered or routed, which can be hundreds of kilometres from whoever is actually connected — for a VPN or a mobile carrier it routinely is.
So do not treat any of it as proof of where someone is or who someone is. It is not evidence, and it was never meant to be.
4. No Warranty, No Promise of Availability
The apps are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
We do not promise that an app will work, that what it shows will be correct, or that it will keep being published. It may change, break, or be withdrawn, with or without notice.
5. Fair Use
Ordinary use of an app is welcome. These are not:
- trying to disrupt or overload the service an app calls, or to get around its limits
- automating an app to collect addresses in bulk
- using an app to profile, locate, or identify a person
6. Limits of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of an app, from the data it shows, or from it being unavailable.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. Where a limit above goes further than your law allows, it applies only as far as your law allows.
7. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated. Any update is reflected on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
